The right lesson should give you practical guidance rather than a one-size-fits-all routine. Your coach can focus on the parts of your game that need attention, from racket preparation and timing to court positioning and shot selection.
Whether you are learning the basics, returning to the court or preparing for more competitive play, sessions can be adjusted to your current ability. Lessons may include stroke practice, movement patterns, rallying and simple point-play situations.
Apex Court Academy is based in Burlingame and arranges coaching across nearby Peninsula communities. Contact the team to discuss your preferred location and the lesson options currently available.
Think about how much individual feedback you want, whether you prefer learning with a partner, and what you hope to improve. The academy can help you compare lesson formats before choosing a starting point.
Every format has its strengths, and this table shows which one lines up with your goal. Looking for affordable tennis lessons? Shared sessions and group classes generally give you the most coaching for the money, and we can explain what is currently availabl.
| Format | Best for | What you get | Cost level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private lesson | Quick technique changes, new players wanting a solid start, competition prep | The coach's undivided attention and a plan designed around you | Highest per session |
| Semi-private | Couples, friends, siblings or a parent and child | Individual feedback with the session and fee shared | Moderate |
| Small group class | Players who like learning alongside others, adults and kids alike | Organized drills, partner rallies and an upbeat court atmosphere | Most affordable |
| Clinics and camps | Players seeking energetic, match-style training | Live-ball drills, conditioning and point play across hours or days | Varies by program |
Your first session is a chance to talk through your goals and get comfortable on court. Wear sports clothing and court-appropriate shoes, bring water, and ask in advance whether a loan racket can be arranged.
Start with a quick conversation about your experience and what you would like to learn, followed by simple movements or rallies to assess your current level.
Your coach selects a small number of useful changes, demonstrates them and gives you time to practise with feedback.
Before you leave, review the key takeaway from the session and agree on a practical skill to work on before your next class.
Junior lessons should match a child’s stage of development. Activities can introduce racket skills and movement first, then gradually add rallying, serving and basic match play as confidence grows.
Learn more on our junior tennis development page, or contact us and we will confirm the best group for your child’s age and level.
The coaching team includes Lucas Rosenberg, a USTA 5.0-rated player, and Eric Dennis, whose tennis background spans more than two decades.
Lessons can be organized around practical targets, giving you a clear focus for each visit and a way to review what you have been practising.
Scheduling depends on coach and court availability. Contact the academy to ask about weekday, weekend or later-day options.
Coaches can demonstrate a technique, watch you try it and offer specific pointers you can apply during the same session.
Questions are welcome at every level. The aim is to make practice constructive and approachable, whether you are new to tennis or rebuilding confidence.
If you play another racket sport, mention it to your coach; some movement and hand-eye coordination skills may carry over, while tennis technique still needs dedicated practice.

My son (7yro) has taken tennis lessons at 3 different academy before finding Coach Lucas & we are finally happy! What we noticed at other academy is that they will tell you by words on how to fix your form across the net but my son was still hitting it wrongly because it was hard to change his form with just verbal guidance. Coach Lucas is hands on on fixing how to properly hit so my son learns the basic techniques correctly first which we love! He also is very friendly and makes the class fun which makes my son & his friends engaged. We highly recommend him :)Posted on Google![]()

I have taken several of Lucas’ pickleball classes. He is a great coach with positive and encouraging feedback. In addition to gameplay, we’ve done a wide variety of drills to improve our shot accuracy and game strategy.

Private coaching can be useful when you want detailed feedback on a particular skill. A coach can help prioritize changes, while regular practice between sessions helps reinforce them.
Private lessons focus on one player, while group classes let participants practise with others and share coaching time. Semi-private sessions offer a middle option for a small number of players.
Adults can begin without previous experience. Early lessons typically introduce ready position, racket control, basic forehands and backhands, then progress to short rallies at a manageable pace.
Readiness depends on the child’s coordination, attention and interest. Younger children often begin with short, playful activities; the academy can discuss suitable options based on age and experience.
Wear comfortable athletic clothing and tennis-appropriate shoes, and bring water. Ask when booking whether a racket can be provided if you do not have one.
