If you have searched for “tennis classes near me” or “tennis lessons near me” and found a long list of names with no real way to tell them apart, here is what sets us apart. At Apex Court Academy every tennis instructor builds the lesson around where you are today: your strokes, your footwork, your fitness and what you want from the game.
We coach complete beginners who have never held a racket, adults returning after years away, kids taking their first swings and tournament players chasing a higher rating. Technique, movement and match strategy are all part of the training, so what you practice on court carries into real points.
We teach tennis classes in Millbrae and across the Peninsula, with the academy based in nearby Burlingame, and we run tennis and pickleball under one roof if you want to try both.
Pick the format that suits your goals and budget. Not sure which one fits? Tell us a little about your game and we will point you to the right start.
Each format has a place. Use this guide to match the lesson to your goal. If you are looking for affordable tennis lessons, group and semi-private sessions are usually the most economical way to get quality coaching, and our team can walk you through current options.
| Format | Best for | What you get | Cost level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private lesson | Fast technique change, beginners who want a strong start, tournament prep | Complete focus from your coach and a plan built around you | Highest per session |
| Semi-private | Couples, friends, siblings or parent and child | Personal feedback while sharing the session and the cost | Moderate |
| Small group class | Social learners, adults and kids who enjoy playing with others | Structured drills, partner work and a lively court atmosphere | Most affordable |
| Clinics and camps | Players wanting high-energy, game-style training | Live-ball drills, conditioning and match play over several hours or days | Varies by program |
Nervous about your first session? Most people are. There is nothing to prepare beyond comfortable athletic clothes and non-marking court shoes. If you do not own a racket yet, tell us when you book and we can supply equipment for the first lesson.
Your coach asks about your goals and watches a few easy rallies to see where you are starting from.
Instead of piling on tips, we pick the changes that will help you most right now and practice them until they feel natural.
You leave knowing what you improved, what to practice on your own and which lesson format will help you progress.
Parents often ask whether their child is ready and what a lesson will look like. Children learn tennis best through movement and play, so our junior tennis programs are grouped by age and skill and kept active, positive and fun.
Read more on our junior tennis development page, or contact us to confirm the right group for your child’s age and level.
Train with USTA 5.0-rated Lucas Rosenberg and veteran coach Eric Dennis, who bring years of competitive and teaching experience to every level.
Your coach remembers your goals, notes what is improving and sets the next target, so each lesson builds on the last.
We are open seven days a week and have access to lit courts, so evening tennis lessons fit around work and school.
We show you how a stroke should feel and adjust it with you on court, rather than just describing what to change.
Whether it is your first swing or your first time back in years, every question is welcome and every small win counts.
Curious about the other fast-growing racket sport? Our coaches teach both, and skills carry over between them.

A USTA 5.0-rated tennis and pickleball coach who teaches players of every age and level. Lucas tailors each session, whether you are picking up a racket for the first time or sharpening advanced play.

With over 20 years in the sport, Eric competed in USTA tournaments and played for the University of Redlands before moving into coaching. He brings that competitive insight and a clear teaching style to his students.
We bring coaching to public and community courts around the Peninsula so quality instruction is close to home or work. Exact court details are shared once you book.

My son (7yro) has taken tennis lessons at 3 different academy before finding Coach Lucas & we are finally happy! What we noticed at other academy is that they will tell you by words on how to fix your form across the net but my son was still hitting it wrongly because it was hard to change his form with just verbal guidance. Coach Lucas is hands on on fixing how to properly hit so my son learns the basic techniques correctly first which we love! He also is very friendly and makes the class fun which makes my son & his friends engaged. We highly recommend him :)Posted on Google![]()

I have taken several of Lucas’ pickleball classes. He is a great coach with positive and encouraging feedback. In addition to gameplay, we’ve done a wide variety of drills to improve our shot accuracy and game strategy.
Prices depend on the format (private, semi-private or group), the coach and how many sessions you book. Group and semi-private lessons are usually the most affordable way to get professional coaching, while private lessons cost more per session because you get one-on-one attention. For most players, yes, especially if you want to change a grip, fix a stroke or build a strong base quickly. A private tennis coach sees every swing and can correct it immediately. Many students combine occasional private lessons with group classes to keep improving while playing more points.
Private lessons give you the coach's full attention and a plan built around you. Group classes cost less, use structured drills and partner play, and add a social side. Semi-private lessons sit in between, letting two or three people share a session and the cost.
Absolutely. Many of our students pick up a racket for the first time as adults. Adult beginner tennis lessons start with the basics, such as grip, a simple forehand and backhand, and moving to the ball, and progress at a pace that feels comfortable. It is never too late to start.
Many children start around age 4 or 5 with short, play-based sessions that develop balance, coordination and racket skills. Older kids are grouped by age and ability and progress through orange, green and yellow balls. Contact us and we will recommend the right group for your child.
Wear comfortable athletic clothing and non-marking court shoes, and bring water. If you do not have a racket yet, let us know when you book and we can provide equipment for your first lesson.
It varies with age, fitness and how often you practice. Many beginners are able to keep a short rally going after a handful of lessons, and most students notice measurable improvement within the first few sessions. Weekly lessons plus a little practice between sessions give the best results.
Once a week is a good rhythm for most beginners and improving players. Competitive juniors and adults preparing for tournaments often add a second session or a clinic. Your coach will suggest a schedule based on your goals.
Yes. We have access to lit courts around the Peninsula, so evening sessions are available. We are open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Yes. Senior tennis lessons are paced to your comfort, our adult classes welcome every level and background, and semi-private lessons work well for couples, friends or family members who want to learn together. Tell us what you are looking for and we will suggest the best fit.
Look for certified coaches with real playing and teaching experience, a clear plan for your lessons, hands-on feedback and a friendly style that keeps you motivated. Our team is led by USTA 5.0-rated Lucas Rosenberg and Eric Dennis, who has more than 20 years in the sport.
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a private lesson. Parks and Recreation programs follow the cancellation and weather policies of the Hillsborough program.
Yes. Our coaches teach both sports, and many players enjoy mixing them. See our pickleball classes page for details.
Start with a few beginner tennis lessons so a coach can set up your grip, stance and swing correctly from day one. Good habits are far easier to build than to fix later. Learn the basic forehand, backhand and serve, practice moving to the ball, and then add scoring and short rallies. Lessons once a week plus a little practice in between is a reliable way to learn.
A tennis club usually gives you court access and a mix of social play, while a tennis academy is built around coaching and a structured path to improve. If your goal is to learn tennis properly, an academy such as Apex Court Academy gives you a coach, a plan and feedback every session. Many students later join a club to play matches with the skills they built here.
Compare coaches on four things: playing and teaching experience, how they correct your technique, how well they adapt to your level and goals, and how convenient the courts and times are. Ask for a first lesson to see their style in person. Reviews from other students and parents are also a useful guide. Call (650) 954-0103 and we will match you with the right coach.
